Rolan never knew his parents as he was left at the temple as an infant. As is the custom of his order, he was trained and raised to the age of 25. He then took his first test to be inducted into the order of the temple. This was a test of will and concentration. Upon passing, he received his name and began training in the combat arts. hrough meditation and constant physical exertion he prepared for his second test, which took place when he was 50. His success in the physical test set some new records but didn’t break all the records. Rolan then continued his study, and began to read texts about the world outside the temple. He knew his pilgrimage would soon be coming. Rolan’s pilgrimage would be his chance to finally add to the temple library.
The temple collected reputable texts that pointed a way to the mother. The temple had been searching for the goddess of all the gods for millenia and each member of the order left on their 60th name day and went into the world to search for evidence to bring back. Many of them never return. A select few monks return with evidence which is reviewed and added to the library if it passes. Rolan has been out of the temple for 3 years (he is 63) and he has yet to find a single passable lead on his quest. He does odd jobs to earn enough money for food and supplies and has just landed on a trader’s vessel in a new port town.
